What year and discipline are you in?
I am currently in my third year of Computer Software Engineering.
Why did you go into your program?
I was always interested in working with new technologies and making things, so naturally, I wanted to pursue a degree in engineering. In my first year at the University of Alberta, I took a coding course, and from there, I knew that I could see myself pursuing a career in software development. Then, at the end of my first year, I applied to the computer software engineering discipline and luckily got admitted.
What do you want to do as a career?
In terms of what I want to do in my career, I'm still kind of undecided. Software development is such a broad field. There are so many different areas in which you could specialize, so my goal right now is to get exposure to as many different areas in software development as I can. Through my experience with ARVP, I have found out that I'm interested in robotics and can see myself furthering my career in robotics.
What are you looking forward to most for when COVID is over?
The thing I am looking forward to most when COVID is over is getting back to playing basketball. I have been playing since I was 11 years old, and before COVID, it was something me and my friends I could get together and play once or twice a week. Due to the weather outside and the COVID affecting gym availability, I haven't been able to play for a while. So that is definitely something I am looking forward to getting back into once COVID is over.
What is a fun fact/skill about yourself?
One fun fact about myself is that I have an identical twin brother who is studying civil engineering at the University of Alberta, who is also in ARVP.
