ARVP's is working to develop a new generation of autonomous underwater vehicle to supersede its predecessor, Auri. Over the three year lifespan of Auri, the ARVP team gained valuable insights. Auri's limitations have provided useful insights to improve its design. Everything from body layout, underwater image detection, torpedo launching mechanisms, and signal processing are being overhauled and implemented into the new robot.
The team is making great strides to finish the design of the new robot before the end of May. Although there have been delays due to COVID-19, it is expected that all parts should be manufactured by August and assembly can commence. The team aims to have the new robot completed by the end of August, 2020. However, this new robot will not be used in this year's competition. Although the 2020 RoboSub competition was set to take place August 3-9, 2020 in San Diego, CA, the in-person portion of the competition has been cancelled because of COVID-19. The team will still be completing a Technical Design Report, Team Video, and updating our website, and these three items will be judged and form the basis of this year's competition.
This is the space where progressive updates will be mentioned regarding the status of the new robot. If you are interested in the team's progress, follow ARVP on social media!
