2009 Bearacuda Maintenance

Objectives/Problems 1) In competition/practice we found the removing and attaching of the endcap both a lengthy and difficult process due to the small size of the fasteners (M3).

OBJECTIVE: To improve the endcap fastening method to take less time and be more ergonomic

SOLUTION: · Switch to M5 bolts o Easier to handle because of larger size o Hex head should be less prone to stripping because of larger surface area than hex slot in M3 screws · Switch to wing nuts o Reduce the number of tools needed to one (socket or wrench) o Help prevent stripping due to overtightening 2) In competition hull integrity check (pressure gauge on endcap) revealed a minor leak due to pitting of the flange and endcap surface from sand particles.

OBJECTIVE: To repair the sealing surfaces and modify the endcap fastening procedures to prevent further comprimises.

SOLUTION: · Re-surface flange and endcap surfaces to remove pitting · Cover sealing surfaces when not in use with clean cloths and blow sealing surfaces with compressed air before starting the sealing procedures.
